India and Russia on Friday, placed strong emphasis on countering terrorism as a part of annual summit in New Delhi, as President Vladimir Putin began his two-day state visit to India after arriving on Thursday.
In a joint statement released after talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Putin, both leaders reaffirmed their “strong commitment” to combating terrorism in all its forms, including cross-border movement, financing networks, and safe havens.
The statement condemned recent terror attacks in both countries including the April 22, 2025 attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam and the March 22, 2024 attack at Crocus City Hall in Moscow.
Calling terrorism “criminal and unjustifiable,” the leaders urged global action against UN-listed groups such as Al Qaeda, ISIS/Daesh and their affiliates.
They also stressed the need to eliminate financing channels, dismantle safe havens, and curb the movement of foreign terrorist fighters.
