The Civil Aviation Ministry on Thursday released a detailed statement outlining immediate measures to address the widespread disruption caused by mass flight delays and cancellations, particularly affecting IndiGo passengers across major airports.
Union Minister for Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu announced that the DGCA’s revised Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) orders have been placed in abeyance with immediate effect to stabilise operations and prioritise relief for stranded travellers.
Airlines have been instructed to issue timely and accurate updates, ensure automatic refunds for all cancelled flights, and arrange hotel accommodation for passengers stranded due to prolonged delays.
Special priority assistance has been mandated for senior citizens and persons with disabilities. The ministry has also ordered airlines to strengthen communication channels to prevent passengers from being left without information.
A high-level inquiry has been initiated to investigate the operational failures that led to large-scale disruptions and repeated cancellations of IndiGo flights.
The ministry reiterated that accountability will be fixed and corrective measures enforced to prevent future breakdowns in airline operations.
The statement emphasised that passenger comfort, safety and timely service continue to remain the government’s highest priority amid the ongoing aviation crisis.
