Gaya Police and the Special Task Force (STF) on Friday arrested a hardcore Maoist wanted in multiple Naxal-related cases during a joint operation in Bihar’s Gaya district, officials said.
The accused, identified as Manohar Bhuiyan alias Shankar Bhuiyan, was apprehended following specific intelligence inputs about his movement in the Maigra police station area.
Senior Superintendent of Police Kantesh Kumar Mishra constituted a Special Investigation Team comprising personnel from Gaya Police and the STF.
The team, led by Dumaria SHO Inspector Raju Kumar, tracked Bhuiyan near his native Chatakpur village. He allegedly tried to flee after spotting the police team but was chased and arrested.
During interrogation, Bhuiyan reportedly confessed to his involvement in at least seven Naxal attack-related cases registered at Dumaria, Raushanganj and Imamganj police stations.
Police said he had been active with the banned outfit and absconding since 2014, with his first major role allegedly linked to the blasting of an Airtel mobile tower in March that year.
