Delhi govt approves Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill

Rekha Gupta led Delhi government, on Tuesday has approved the Delhi Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, aiming to simplify compliance procedures and decriminalising minor offences.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the bill, passed by the Delhi Cabinet, seeks to reduce the burden on courts and make administrative processes more efficient.

The legislation aligns with the central government’s Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2023/2025, which decriminalises minor offences under various central laws.

By categorising minor infractions as civil liabilities rather than criminal offences, the bill intends to foster ease of governance and promote citizen-friendly administration.

Officials said the move is expected to streamline regulatory processes, save time and resources for both the government and citizens, and ensure quicker resolution of cases related to minor offences.

The bill now awaits formal legislative procedures before coming into effect.
