South Africa make big calls in T20 World Cup squad, Stubbs, Rickelton dropped

T20I World Cup 2024 runners-up South Africa have announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming T20I World Cup starting from 7 February in India and Sri Lanka.

Continuing the hunt for their first white-ball ICC title, the board has chosen Aiden Markram to yet again lead the side.

The batting side has seen notable shifts. Tristan Stubbs and Ryan Rickelton have not been included in the 15-member squad, while young talents Dewald Brevis and Donovan Ferreira have been given a chance. However, David Miller remains the experienced finisher, with Tony de Zorzi and Jason Smith providing depth.

South Africa’s fast-bowling attack looks formidable with Kagiso Rabada returning from injury to lead the pace unit alongside Marco Jansen, Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi.

Corbin Bosch and teenage left-armer Kwena Maphaka also earned their maiden T20I World Cup calls. The spin department will be anchored by Keshav Maharaj and George Linde, with Markram offering part-time support.

South Africa squad:

Aiden Markram (captain), Corbin Bosch, Dewald Brevis, Quinton de Kock, Tony de Zorzi, Donovan Ferreira, Marco Jansen, George Linde, Keshav Maharaj, Kwena Maphaka, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, Jason Smith.

The T20 World Cup 2026, hosted by India and Sri Lanka, begins on February 7, with the final scheduled for March 8.

South Africa open their campaign against Canada on February 9 in Ahmedabad, hoping this revamped squad can go one step further than in 2024.
