On Friday, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) issued a directive to X Corp. (formerly Twitter) over its failure to comply with statutory due diligence obligations under the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the IT ((Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
In a letter to the Chief Compliance Officer of X Corp., the Centre highlighted concerns over the misuse of AI-based services like Grok and other offerings by X, which were allegedly being used to host, generate, publish, or share obscene, nude, indecent, and sexually explicit content.
The government has sought an immediate Action Taken Report (ATR) from the platform and directed it to remove and disable all unlawful content. Authorities emphasized that strict compliance with IT rules is mandatory to prevent the circulation of objectionable material and safeguard users against harmful AI-generated content.
