Sunjay Kapur’s wife, Priya Kapur, has filed a criminal defamation complaint against his sister, Mandhira Kapur Smith, as the family’s inheritance dispute takes a sharper legal turn.
The complaint was filed before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate at Patiala House Courts in New Delhi and was formally registered on Saturday.
Priya has alleged that Mandhira and another individual made repeated public statements against her on digital platforms, containing false claims, insinuations and personal attacks.
The complaint states that these remarks caused serious reputational harm, especially as the matter is currently under judicial consideration.
Estate dispute intensifies
The defamation case comes amid an ongoing legal battle over late businessman Sunjay Kapur’s estate.
In August last year, Priya submitted a document before the Delhi High Court claiming it to be his will, which was challenged by other family members. The dispute has since widened, with multiple cases being heard in different courts.
