Days after an IED blast in Chattisgarh’s Bijapur injured a 15-year-old boy, another 20-year-old man lost his life due to a similar attack.
As confirmed by Police, the Maoists planted a pressure-triggered improved explosive device (IED) and its explosion led to his death.
The incident occurred on Sunday when the victim, identified as Aayta Kuhrami, a resident of Kasturipad village, had gone into a nearby forest area. Officials said he accidentally stepped on the pressure IED, triggering a powerful blast that caused severe injuries to his legs.
Kuhrami was rushed to a hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries while being shifted for treatment, police added.
Following the explosion, security forces launched a search operation in the surrounding forest to check for additional explosive devices that may have been planted in the area.
Police have advised villagers to remain cautious while moving through forested and remote regions and to immediately report any suspicious objects or activity.
Officials noted that Maoists often plant pressure IEDs along dirt tracks frequently used by security personnel.
