Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday took cognisance of the tragic car accident in Greater Noida that led to the death of a young man, Yuvraj Mehta.
Following the incident, the CM directed the formation of a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the ADG, Meerut Zone, to probe the case. The SIT, which includes the Divisional Commissioner Meerut and Chief Engineer PWD, has been asked to submit its report within five days.
What happened?
The accident occurred late on January 16 when Yuvraj, returning home from his Gurugram office, lost control of his Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara in dense winter fog.
The car veered off the road and fell into a deep, water-filled excavation pit dug for a building’s basement, which lacked barricades, warning signs or reflective markers.
Eyewitness and family accounts
Eyewitnesses said the dense fog contributed to the accident. Yuvraj’s father, Raj Kumar Mehta, said his son remained alive in the pit for nearly two hours, calling desperately for help as onlookers gathered and recorded videos.
