After weeks of continued surveillance and groundwork, police arrested a 35-year-old man allegedly involved in around 20 criminal cases across Delhi and Haryana near the Dwarka Expressway, officials said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Ravinder Deswal, also known as Chota, Bhanja and Bori, was held following a brief chase near the Dwarka Expressway toll plaza on January 24.
A resident of Rohtak, Haryana, Deswal had been absconding for nearly two years after jumping bail and was declared a proclaimed offender in multiple cases.
The arrest was carried out under Operation Kavach 12.0, a special drive launched to track down absconding gangsters and their associates.
Police said Deswal had been evading arrest by frequently changing locations, working at toll plazas and using mobile phones registered in the names of acquaintances.
After nearly four weeks of verification across more than 25 locations in Gurugram, Sonipat and Rohtak, and with the help of technical surveillance, the police team traced his movement and intercepted him.
According to officials, Deswal has alleged links to serious offences including murder, dacoity, robbery, abduction and Arms Act violations. Further investigation is underway.
