The Indian Air Force on Wednesday swiftly deployed a team of Air Traffic Control (ATC) personnel to Baramati Airport following an urgent request from the Government of Maharashtra, defence officials said.
The ATC team, along with essential technical equipment, was flown in from Air Force Station Lohegaon to establish emergency air traffic control services.
Officials said the personnel set up communication systems and other critical emergency facilities in close coordination with the local administration to ensure safe and efficient air traffic management in the aftermath of the incident.
The deployment came hours after Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar died in a crash landing of a chartered aircraft at Baramati earlier in the morning. Four others, including crew members and security personnel onboard the plane, also lost their lives in the tragedy.
Ajit Pawar’s last rites are scheduled to be held tomorrow, as the state continues to mourn the loss of its deputy Chief Minister.
