Dreaded Maoist arrested in a joint operation in Kaimur

Kaimur and Rohtas police, in a joint operation, arrested dreaded Maoist Ram Pravesh Bind alias Pravesh Ji from Kaimur district on Wednesday night, ending his nearly nine-year-long run from law enforcement.

The arrest was made from his native village Chhotka Lohara under the Chainpur police station area of Kaimur. Police said Pravesh was wanted in multiple serious cases, including murder, kidnapping, attacks on security forces, destruction of construction company machinery and violations under the Arms Act in both Rohtas and Kaimur districts.

He was also accused in the brutal 2017 murder of a tribal youth, Jitendra Kumar Singh Kharwar, in Goria village of Rohtas district. According to police, the victim had opposed the presence and demands of a Naxal squad, following which he was shot dead by Maoists, including Pravesh.

Rohtas superintendent of police Raushan Kumar said Pravesh had repeatedly evaded arrest despite several joint raids over the years. His capture is being seen as a major success in the fight against Left-wing extremism in the region.
