The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) on Friday claimed that the pit into which a 25-year-old motorcyclist reportedly fell in west Delhi’s Janakpuri area was secured with green mesh and the road stretch had been properly barricaded.
The incident occurred during ongoing sewer pipeline rehabilitation work being carried out by the DJB in the area.
In a statement, the water management agency said a preliminary inquiry found that the road under construction had been closed using barricades and green mesh, and the pit at the accident site was also covered.
The DJB released photographs and a video showing the barricaded section, with a narrow opening protected by green mesh.
The agency said it had already issued a circular last month directing officials and contractors to strictly follow safety protocols at construction sites, including proper barricading, warning signboards and reflector tapes. It warned that engineers and contractors would be held accountable for any safety lapses.
The DJB has constituted a two-member inquiry committee to investigate the incident and submit its report.
