Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday visited the flood-affected areas near Sultanpur Lodhi in Kapurthala district to take stock of the situation. Punjab, governed by AAP, has been reeling under one of the deadliest floods in recent years, with more than 1,000 villages inundated and thousands of families displaced.
Kejriwal interacted with local residents who have been battling rising waters and crop destruction. He assured them that the Punjab government is committed to providing immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation measures. He ensured that ensuring safety of the people of Punjab remains the top priority of the Punjab government.
The floods, triggered by heavy rainfall and overflowing rivers, have caused widespread damage to farmlands, homes, and infrastructure. Relief camps have been set up across several districts, while state authorities continue rescue operations. Kejriwal’s visit comes as the administration faces mounting pressure to accelerate compensation disbursal and strengthen embankments to prevent further breaches.
