Families of four victims from the Air India Flight 171 crash have filed a lawsuit in the US against aerospace firms Boeing and Honeywell.
Earlier this year, the Boeing 787 crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad in June, killing 260 people. The lawsuit blames faulty fuel switches for the accident.
It alleges that both companies knew of the design flaw but failed to act. A 2018 FAA advisory had urged inspections of the switches, but no mandatory fixes were executed.
According to India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, the switch had moved from “run” to “cut-off,” cutting fuel supply and engine thrust.
The lawsuit accuses Boeing and Honeywell of negligence, saying: “They did nothing to prevent the inevitable tragedy.”
Boeing has referred to the AAIB investigation and not commented further. Honeywell has not yet responded.
