Thousands of grieving fans gathered in Guwahati on Sunday to pay their last respects to Assam’s cultural icon Zubeen Garg, who passed away in Singapore on September 19.
His mortal remains, draped with a traditional Assamese gamosa, were placed in a glass casket as emotional admirers queued through the night for a final glimpse of the beloved singer.
The Limca Book of Records recognized Zubeen Garg’s funeral as one of the largest public funerals in history.
According to a report by Moneycontrol, this was the world’s fourth-largest funeral alongside Michael Jackson, Pope Francis, and Queen Elizabeth II.
Ahead of the funeral, fans in Jorhat blocked the national highway for hours, demanding that Garg’s remains be brought to Guwahati, the city where he spent his formative years.
The unprecedented turnout reflected Garg’s unmatched influence on Assam’s cultural and musical landscape.
