At Bihar symposium, Rahul Gandhi announces ten-point plan for EBCs

Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday sharpened his pitch for social justice during a rally in Bihar, promising a caste census and greater participation for Extremely Backward Classes (EBCs), Dalits, tribals, minorities, and other marginalized groups.

Speaking at the ‘Ati Pichra Nyay Sankalp’ symposium, Gandhi said the INDIA bloc is committed to unveiling the “true population” of backward communities, Dalits, tribals, minorities, and the poor among the general castes through a nationwide caste census if voted to power.

“The entire country recognises that these communities don’t receive the participation they deserve. We will change that,” he declared.

He further announced that the bloc would ensure reservation for EBCs in private educational institutions as well as in government contracts worth over ₹25 crore, should it form the next government in Bihar.

A ten-point resolution for EBC empowerment was passed at the event. Bihar, where caste arithmetic strongly shapes politics, is scheduled to go to assembly polls later this year.
