Australia open T20 World Cup campaign with win over Ireland

Australia registered their first victory of the T20 World Cup with a formidable 67-run win over Ireland at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, climbing to the top of the Group B table.

Batting first, Australia posted 182/6 in 20 overs, powered by Marcus Stoinis’ 45 off 29 balls, while Josh Inglis and Matt Renshaw chipped in with 37 each. In response, Ireland were reduced to a total of 115 runs despite George Dockrell’s 41.

Nathan Ellis starred with the ball, claiming 4/12 in 3.5 overs and earning the Player of the Match award. Adam Zampa and Matthew Kuhnemann provided solid support in bowling out Ireland in te 17th over. 

Australia will next face Zimbabwe on February 13, as they look to continue their winning momentum. Meanwhile, Ireland will play against Oman next.
