Centre extends ban on NSCN-K for five more years

The Centre on Monday extended the ban on the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) and all its factions, wings and front organisations for another five years, citing threats to India’s sovereignty and integrity.

The ban will come into effect from September 28, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The government said NSCN-K has continued to pursue its declared objective of creating a “sovereign Nagaland” by carving out Naga-inhabited areas from India and Myanmar through violent means.

It has also maintained close ties with other banned outfits such as ULFA(I), PREPAK and PLA.

The MHA noted that the group’s activities, including attempts at extortion, recruitment and armed violence, remain a serious internal security concern.

With this extension, the NSCN-K will remain classified as an “unlawful association” under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) until 2030.
