Cyclone Montha: Uprooted tree kills woman in Andhra Pradesh

A woman died  in Makanagudem village of Konaseema district, Andhra Pradesh, after a tree was uprooted by powerful gales and fell on her, a police official told PTI on Tuesday.

The incident occurred as Cyclone Montha intensified into a severe cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal, bringing heavy rain and destructive winds to parts of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone is expected to make landfall near Kakinada tonight.

In response, 25 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed across Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, and Puducherry.

The severe weather has disrupted transportation, leading to the cancellation of several train services and at least 30 flights from Gannavaram airport.

Visakhapatnam airport has also suspended all operations for the day.
