Death toll in Nepal’s Gen-Z protests rises to 51 amid political unrest

The death toll from Nepal’s violent protests has surged to 51, Nepal Police confirmed on Friday, as the nation grapples with a deepening political crisis.

The unrest, widely termed “Gen-Z protests,” began after the government imposed a controversial ban on social media apps, sparking widespread anger among young citizens.

Of the fatalities, 47 are Nepali civilians, three are policemen, and one is an Indian national. The protests have left the country in turmoil, with both the Prime Minister and President resigning in recent weeks.

With leadership in disarray and no clarity on who will take charge, Nepal faces mounting instability. Demonstrations continue across major cities, reflecting frustration over curbs on digital freedom and a lack of accountability.

Observers warn the crisis could further erode public trust in democratic institutions if no swift resolution emerges.
