Delhi gets its first MCD school of gardening at Roshanara Bagh

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s horticulture department has completed the construction of the school, which aims to offer hands-on, practical gardening courses to students and residents interested in learning about plants and nature.

The one-storey building includes a classroom for 70 students, a small office, and a kitchen.

The classroom is equipped with a projector and educational boards displaying detailed information about various trees, climbers, and indoor plants, from flowering seasons to seed collection methods and propagation techniques.

Officials said the courses will focus on practical skills like preparing soil, repotting plants, identifying species, using lawnmowers, and treating pest infections.

“Practical knowledge will be central to all courses, as theory is already widely available,” an MCD official said.

While the programs are expected to benefit horticulture and agriculture students, the MCD is considering opening them to all Delhi residents.

Course durations may range from two days to several weeks, and fees are being finalized.
