Delhi riots 2020 accused Khalid Saifi granted 13-day interim bail

A Delhi court on Thursday granted 13-day interim bail to Khalid Saifi, an accused in the 2020 Northeast Delhi riots larger conspiracy case, on several conditions, including a ban on social media activity.

Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai approved the bail for Saifi, founder of ‘United Against Hate’, to attend his nephews’ wedding and observe Ramzan with his family.

The court’s order, dated January 29, mandates that Saifi must not contact witnesses, leave Delhi or NCR, interact with the media, or post anything on social media during the bail period from February 6 to February 13, 2026. He was asked to furnish a personal bond of ₹20,000 along with two sureties of the same amount.

The 2020 communal clashes in northeast Delhi, triggered by protests over the Citizenship Amendment Act, claimed at least 53 lives and injured around 700.

The prosecution has alleged that Saifi and former Congress councillor Ishrat Jahan instigated the unlawful assembly that led to violence.
