A tragic incident unfolded in Uttarakhand’s Pauri Garhwal district as a 30-year-old labourer allegedly threw his three-month-old son into a gorge before leaping in himself.
Following a heated argument with his wife on Tuesday, he threw his son into a 300-metre gorge. The incident took place in Daboli village under Lansdowne police limits.
According to police, the man, a native of Dailekh district in Nepal, had returned home intoxicated around 1:30 pm on the day of the festival.
“He worked as a daily-wage labourer. During an argument, he suddenly snatched the child from his wife and flung him into the gorge before jumping in himself,” said sub-inspector Pravesh Sharma.
Villagers rushed to the spot and managed to retrieve both the man and the baby. The infant was already dead, while the man was found barely alive.
He was taken to Chailusain hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Police said both bodies were sent to Kotdwar for postmortem. “No formal complaint has been received yet, but further action will follow as per procedure,” Sharma added.
