Election Commission revises schedule for SIR of electoral rolls

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced revised dates for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, based on the qualifying date of January 1, 2026. 

According to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Uttar Pradesh, the draft electoral roll will now be published on January 6, 2026.

The window for filing claims and objections will remain open from January 6 to February 6, 2026. 

During the period from January 6 to February 27, the notice phase, scrutiny of forms, and disposal of claims and objections will be undertaken. The final electoral roll for Uttar Pradesh is scheduled to be published on March 6, 2026.

The second phase of the SIR is currently underway in 12 states and Union Territories, including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
