Legendary Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani has died at the age of 91, his company confirmed on Thursday (September 4, 2025). The Armani Group, in a heartfelt statement, said, “With infinite sorrow, the Armani Group announces the passing of its creator, founder, and tireless driving force: Giorgio Armani.”
Armani, often known as “Re Giorgio” (King Giorgio), was synonymous with timeless Italian style, effortlessly blending sophistication with modern elegance. Beyond being a designer, he was a visionary businessman, building his label into a global powerhouse that generated nearly €2.3 billion ($2.7 billion) annually. The designer’s health has been deteriorating in recent months so much so that he missed Milan’s Men’s Fashion Week in June for the first time in his career. His absence then had signaled the toll of illness, but his passing has left everyone shocked in the world of fashion.
A funeral chamber will be open in Milan on September 6 and 7, giving admirers a chance to pay their respects, followed by a private funeral service at a later date. Armani’s enduring influence will continue to shape global fashion for generations to come
