‘Girls were depressed’: Police on Ghaziabad sisters’ suicide case

The investigation into the suicide of three minor sisters in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad has placed the confiscation of their mobile phone at the centre of the tragedy. Police say the girls, aged 16, 14 and 11, were deeply distressed after their father sold the phone they used regularly.

Online access abruptly cut off

According to investigators, the mobile phone was the sisters’ primary link to online task-based games, Korean dramas and social interactions.

After the device was taken away, they were unable to play games or communicate with online contacts. Police said the father had also forced them to delete a social media account with nearly 2,000 followers days before the incident.

Further investigation underway

On the night of the incident, the girls reportedly tried using their mother’s phone but could not access the Korean application. The seized phone, suicide note and fingerprints have been sent for forensic examination.

Police continue to verify claims of online gaming addiction while maintaining that the case is being treated as suicide.
