Amid widespread rumors about Pakistan’s Former PM Imran Khan’s health and death, authorities at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Tuesday allowed his sister to meet him.
After repeated protests and requests outside the Adiala Jail, Imran’s sister Uzma Khanum was allowed to meet her brother. Tensions arose last week after an Afghani media claimed that the Former PM is dead.
The visit came after days of mounting concern from Khan’s family, with both his sister and son publicly demanding proof that he is alive.
Speaking after the meeting, Uzma said Khan’s health was “perfectly fine” but alleged that he was being subjected to “mental torture,” blaming army chief Asim Munir for his condition.
Tensions escalated in recent days after Khan’s sisters were reportedly denied access despite court orders. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Sohail Afridi claimed no one had been permitted to meet Imran or his wife Bushra Bibi since October 27.
Meanwhile, authorities imposed Section 144 in Rawalpindi and Islamabad and deployed heavy security, including the full Rawalpindi police force along Adiala Road, to prevent PTI’s planned protests.
