During the first T20I against New Zealand at Nagpur, the Indian team broke another record as they registered their highest T20I total against New Zealand, posting a mammoth total of 238 runs in 20 overs.
After being put to bat first, opener Abhishek Sharma provided a flying start to the innings producing a sensational knock of 84 runs off just 35 balls. The left-hander played fearlessly and stitched a crucial 99-run partnership with skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who added 32 runs off 22 balls.
All-rounder Hardik Pandya continued the momentum with a quick cameo of 25 runs from 12 balls. Rinku Singh then ensured a strong finish, smashing 44 runs off only 20 balls. In the final over, he punished Daryl Mitchell for 21 runs to push India to a massive total.
With less than a month remaining for the T20I World Cup 2026, such a dominant batting display will significantly boost India’s confidence as they now look to defend a mammoth total of 239 runs.
