India has dispatched emergency relief material to Afghanistan after a powerful earthquake struck the provinces of Balkh, Samangan and Baghlan, causing significant loss of life and widespread destruction.Â
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar spoke with Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi to convey condolences on behalf of the Indian government and people.
According to officials, the first consignment of humanitarian assistance is being handed over today to support affected communities, with additional medical supplies set to be delivered soon.
The aid includes essential medicines, tents, and relief items aimed at assisting families displaced or injured in the disaster.
Reaffirming India’s commitment to stand by the Afghan people in times of crisis, Dr. Jaishankar emphasised that New Delhi remains ready to provide further support as needed.
The earthquake has caused urgent humanitarian needs across northern Afghanistan, prompting swift Indian assistance.
