India scripted history on Monday by defeating Oman for the first time in an international football match, securing a bronze medal in the CAFA Nations Cup 2025. The playoff in Tashkent ended 1-1 in regulation time before India triumphed 3-2 in a dramatic penalty shootout.
Oman took an early lead, but India clawed back into the contest through Udanta Singh, who netted the equaliser to keep Khalid Jamil’s side alive.
The game eventually went to penalties, where Oman faltered, missing their first two attempts. India held their nerve, converting crucial spot-kicks before star goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu produced a decisive save on Oman’s final effort, sealing a famous win.
This victory marked India’s first-ever triumph against Oman in international football, a milestone moment for the Blue Tigers.
The bronze medal also capped a memorable campaign for Jamil and his men, who showcased resilience, determination, and tactical maturity throughout the tournament.
