India to send emergency aid to Afghanistan post deadly eartquake

India has announced it will rush emergency aid to Afghanistan following the devastating earthquake that struck the country on September 1, leaving over 800 people dead and thousands injured or homeless. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar held talks with Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, after which India confirmed it would send food supplies, tents, and other essential relief materials to the quake-affected areas.

The earthquake’s impact was felt most severely in Kunar province, where villages were flattened, families displaced, and basic infrastructure demolished. Survivors are struggling without shelter, clean water, and medical care, as aid agencies warn of worsening conditions with each passing day.

India’s move to send humanitarian assistance highlights its continued commitment to supporting neighbouring countries in times of crisis. In recent years, New Delhi has extended similar relief to nations hit by natural disasters, reinforcing its role as a first responder in the region.
