A 44-year-old Indian-origin man died after allegedly waiting for more than eight hours in the emergency room of a hospital in Edmonton, Canada, despite repeatedly complaining of severe chest pain.
The incident occurred on Monday at Grey Nuns Community Hospital, according to a report by Global News.
The victim, Prashant Sreekumar, an accountant and father of three, began experiencing sharp chest pain at work and was taken to the hospital by a client.
After being triaged, he was asked to wait in the emergency area. His family alleged that despite his blood pressure rising to 210 and his complaints of “unbearable” pain, he was only given Tylenol.
The family said an ECG was conducted but showed nothing alarming, and he was told to continue waiting.
More than eight hours later, Sreekumar reportedly collapsed within seconds of being taken to the treatment area, suffering an apparent cardiac arrest.
The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with calls for accountability over emergency room delays.
