Indore water contamination: Govt confirms 3 deaths; official sacked

Following a water contamination incident in Indore’s Bhagirathpura area, an official has been sacked while two others have been suspended on Wednesday.

Three people have also died due to diarrhea linked to contaminated drinking water.

Chief medical and health officer Madhav Prasad Hasani said a door-to-door survey covered 2,703 households, with around 12,000 residents examined after reports of a diarrhoea outbreak. “Three deaths due to diarrhoea have been confirmed so far.

The cause of death of five others is still being investigated,” he said, adding that patients reported vomiting, diarrhoea and dehydration after consuming contaminated water.

The deceased were identified as Nandlal (70), Urmila Yadav (60) and Tara Kori (65). At least 111 people were hospitalised, while 1,146 reported mild symptoms.

Chief minister Mohan Yadav announced an ex-gratia compensation of ₹2 lakh for the families of the deceased.
