A 30-year-old labourer was beaten to death in Rajasthan’s Banswara district following a dispute over a ₹250 contribution for a village ritual, police said on Wednesday.
The incident, which took place in Bassi Makwana village, has triggered anger and tension among locals.
According to police, the victim, identified as Dhuleshwar, son of Bhanji, was asked to pay ₹250 towards a Pitru Poojan ceremony organised in the village.
His family claimed he had already made the payment. However, a group of youths allegedly returned around 10pm demanding the money again, leading to an argument.
Although villagers intervened initially, the same group reportedly came back later in an intoxicated state and brutally assaulted Dhuleshwar.
Station House Officer (SHO) Buddha Ram Bishnoi said the victim was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Police have registered a murder case against several accused, including Suresh Damor, Balram, Chhagan, and Parmesh.
Dhuleshwar is survived by his wife, Guddi, and three young children – a 12-year-old daughter, a 10-year-old son, and a 7-year-old daughter. “Guddi is now left to take care of the family alone,” the SHO said.
