India’s shuttler Lakshya Sen confirmed his place in the semifinals of the Hong Kong Open 2025 after defeating compatriot Ayush Shetty in a hard-fought quarterfinal on Friday.
The world No. 15 prevailed 21-16, 17-21, 21-13 in a match that lasted over an hour, showcasing his resilience in key moments.
Sen, who has showcased strong form throughout the tournament, had earlier overcome senior shuttler H.S. Prannoy in the round of 16.
Against Shetty, the 24-year-old took control early with sharp smashes and quick net play, but the younger Indian fought back to level the contest. In the decider, Sen’s experience proved decisive as he surged ahead to seal victory.
With this win, Sen advances to the last four, magnifying India’s hopes of a title in the Super 500 event. He will face a sterner test in the semifinals as the competition progresses.
