Mumbai Police have arrested a man from West Bengal for allegedly making extortion calls to comedian-actor Kapil Sharma, demanding ₹1 crore.
The accused, identified as Dilip Choudhary, was nabbed by the Crime Branch after Sharma reported receiving multiple threatening calls and videos on September 22 and 23.
Investigators said Choudhary used the names of notorious gangsters Rohit Godara and Goldy Brar to issue the threats and create fear.
Sharma allegedly received about seven calls within two days, where the accused demanded money and warned of dire consequences if the demand was ignored.
Police are now probing whether Choudhary had any real connection with the gangsters or was merely misusing their names.
He has been remanded to police custody until September 30 as the investigation continues.
