Nearly 700 flights delayed due to technical glitch at Delhi Airport

Flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport were severely hit on Friday, with nearly 700 flights delayed after a major technical fault disrupted the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system.

According to data from Flightradar24, the glitch caused massive congestion both on the ground and in the air, affecting hundreds of passengers throughout the day.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) confirmed that the disruption was caused by a failure in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), which supplies crucial flight plan data to ATC.

“Teams are working to restore the system at the earliest. Controllers are processing flight plans manually, leading to delays,” the AAI said in a statement.

Passengers were urged to check flight updates before heading to the airport, as long queues and rescheduled departures continued through the evening.

Airlines said their ground staff were assisting stranded passengers to minimize inconvenience.

The impact of the Delhi Airport glitch was also felt at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, where several connecting flights were delayed, disrupting domestic and international schedules across India.
