NIA seeks 15-day custody of Anmol Bishnoi after U.S. deportation

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday demanded 15-day custody of Anmol Bishnoi, gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s younger brother, after being produced before a Delhi court

Anmol, one of India’s most wanted crime fugitives, was deported from the United States on November 18, marking a significant breakthrough for agencies pursuing him across multiple states.

Escorted by NIA officials to Patiala House court, Anmol was seen in custody in the first images released by ANI.

His return to India comes amid mounting investigations into at least 18 criminal cases, including the conspiracy to murder former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique.

It is alleged that Anmol was involved in the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala in May 2022, and the firing outside actor Salman Khan’s Mumbai residence earlier this year.

According to investigators, Anmol operated several extortion and targeted-killing networks from abroad, coordinating with operatives linked to the Bishnoi syndicate.

His deportation followed extensive diplomatic and intelligence cooperation with U.S. authorities.

Meanwhile, his cousin Ramesh Bishnoi urged the Centre to ensure Anmol’s safety, alleging he is being targeted due to his family ties.

The NIA is expected to press for deeper interrogation to uncover the gang’s international linkages and ongoing plots
