Ahead of election for the post of BJP National President, the current Working President of the party, Nitin Nabin filed his nomination on Monday.
Union Minister and present National President JP Nadda along with senior leaders Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh filed for Nabin’s nomination. WIth backing from top leaders including PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, he is likely to be elected unopposed.
The formal announcement is expected on Tuesday, January 20.
BJP election rules and process
According to the BJP constitution, the party president is elected by an electoral college comprising members of the national and state councils. If only one nomination is filed for the post, the candidate is declared elected without a vote.
Nabin’s nomination was formally submitted to K Laxman, the Returning Officer for the election, in the presence of senior leaders including Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, Dharmendra Pradhan, Bhupendra Yadav and Kiren Rijiju.
Who is Nitin Nabin
Nitin Nabin is a five-time MLA from Bihar’s Bankipur assembly constituency in Patna and has served twice as a state minister. Appointed BJP’s national working president in December 2025, he comes from a political family, being the son of late BJP veteran Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha.
Key responsibilities ahead
Nabin will take charge at a critical time as the BJP prepares for upcoming assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala, West Bengal and Puducherry, along with major polls next year in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat and other states. He has been actively involved in party organisation and election preparations since his appointment as working president.
