Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to visit Manipur on Saturday, September 13, marking his first visit to the state since ethnic violence broke out two years ago.Â
Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel confirmed that Modi will also travel to Mizoram, where he is slated to inaugurate the Bairabi–Sairang railway line project.
In Manipur, Modi’s itinerary includes two symbolic venues: Peace Ground in Churachandpur, a Kuki-majority district, where he will lay foundation stones for development initiatives worth ₹7,300 crore, and Imphal, the Meitei-majority capital, where he will inaugurate infrastructure projects worth ₹1,200 crore.
The Manipur government on Thursday evening put up billboards detailing Modi’s programmes at Peace Ground and Kangla Fort in Imphal.
The high-profile visit is being closely watched amid continuing tensions in the state and expectations of renewed focus on reconciliation and development.
