President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday voiced deep sorrow over the destruction caused by this year’s monsoon, which has left a trail of death and devastation across several states especially in North India.
Highlighting the tragedies brought by cloudbursts in the hills and floods in the plains, she said the nation stands in solidarity with those affected.
“The nation shares the sorrow of the people affected by calamities and is with them in this crisis,” President Murmu said.
Commending the dedication of rescue and relief personnel, she added that with collective resilience, India would overcome the challenges posed by these natural disasters.
The devastation has been widespread as Punjab alone has seen 1,665 villages impacted by floods, while heavy damage has also been reported in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
Parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and even the national capital, Delhi, have been grappling with the impact of swollen rivers and inundation.
