Punjab CM Mann takes a dig at Congress leaders over flood ‘photo op’

Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday targeted Congress leaders for staging what he called a “photo opportunity” during the recent floods in the state.

Addressing the Vidhan Sabha, Mann alleged that the opposition, led by Pratap Singh Bajwa, arrived in a giant amphibious vehicle to pose for cameras rather than help victims.

“They created a ‘jonga’ and thought it was a good chance for a photoshoot.

It had a capacity of 12, but nine of them sat inside, leaving space to save only three people,” Mann said, adding that the leaders were never seen in the floodwaters again.

Mann contrasted their actions with his own ministers and MLAs who, he said, damaged their feet while wading through the water to assist people.

He also took a swipe at Rahul Gandhi, questioning his insistence on visiting villages just 800 metres from Pakistan, despite Z-category security concerns.
