In a major step to strengthen communication and relief delivery in flood-ravaged Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday announced the appointment of one gazetted officer for each affected village. The move comes as the state battles the heavy floods that have claimed 37 lives and left over 1,655 villages devastated.
According to Mann, the appointed officers will serve as direct links between villagers and the administration, ensuring that every grievance, from food and shelter to health and infrastructure needs, reaches the government promptly. Mann believes this measure will not only speed up relief efforts but also provide a transparent channel for the people to voice their problems.
The Punjab government believes the initiative will bring clarity to the on-ground situation, helping officials design targeted solutions instead of generalized relief packages. With vast areas of agricultural land submerged and thousands of families displaced, effective coordination is seen as the need of the hour.
As relief operations intensify, the state is also working closely with NGOs, volunteers, and central agencies to rebuild lives in what officials have described as the worst flooding Punjab has faced in decades.
