Rohit Sharma’s influence at Mumbai Indians (MI) continues to resonate strongly, even among players who have since moved on. Former MI spinner and current Sunrisers Hyderabad bowler Rahul Chahar has praised the veteran opener’s calm and composed leadership, calling it a defining factor behind his success as captain.
In an interview with Filmgyan, Chahar shared how Rohit’s trust and encouragement helped him during crucial moments. Recalling a semifinal match against Delhi, Chahar said he had gone for 30 runs in his first two overs, but instead of criticism, Rohit walked up to him and asked him to “lead the team.” Chahar said that moment of faith boosted his confidence and remains unforgettable.
“The amount of confidence Rohit Sharma gives to a bowler is something very important. That’s what makes him a true leader,” Chahar said.
Chahar was part of the Mumbai Indians squad that lifted the IPL trophy in 2019 and 2020 under Rohit’s captaincy. Rohit, who took charge of MI in 2013, went on to guide the team to five titles, cementing his status as one of the league’s most successful leaders. In 2024, Hardik Pandya took over the captaincy, but Rohit’s calm presence and leadership legacy continue to inspire players across franchises.
