Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer has decided to take a break from red-ball cricket, citing back stiffness and fatigue,as reported by Express Sports.
The 28-year-old, known for his elegant stroke play and leadership in the shorter formats, had recently captained India A against Australia A in the unofficial Test series.
Iyer led the side in the first match but withdrew ahead of the second Test, initially citing personal reasons.
In a formal communication to the BCCI, he clarified that the decision was motivated by his need to manage physical strain and ensure long-term fitness.
The move highlights the increasing workload concerns among India’s cricketers, especially with packed international schedules.
Iyer’s rest period is expected to help him recover fully before returning to competitive cricket, while also allowing younger players to step up in the longer format.
