An Indian Air Force Tejas fighter jet crashed during a demonstration at the Dubai Air Show on Thursday, plunging to the ground around 2:10 pm local time during a high-speed manoeuvre.
The HAL-built light combat aircraft was performing an aerobatic routine when it suddenly nosedived, sending up thick black smoke over Al Maktoum International Airport, where thousands had gathered to witness the display.
According to the Associated Press, it remains unclear whether the pilot managed to eject before impact. Emergency teams rushed to the site, though no immediate details were available on casualties or damage.
This marks only the second reported crash involving a Tejas aircraft, following a 2024 incident near Jaisalmer.
The Indian Air Force and HAL are expected to conduct a detailed investigation into the cause of the mishap.
More details are awaited.
