Keir Starmer’s visit to Yash Raj Studios
As part of his two-day visit to India, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer visited Yash Raj Films (YRF) Studios in Mumbai on Wednesday.
During the visit, he met Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji and YRF CEO Akshaye Widhani. The visit also marked the celebration of YRF’s 20th anniversary in India.
Announcement of new Indo-UK film collaboration
PM Starmer announced that YRF will shoot three major productions across the UK starting in early 2026, describing it as a move that will bring jobs, investment, and creative opportunities.
“Bollywood is back in Britain,” Starmer said, calling the partnership a milestone for cultural and economic growth between the two nations.
Strengthening India–UK cultural and creative ties
YRF CEO Akshaye Widhani highlighted that the UK holds a special place in Bollywood’s cinematic journey, with many of the studio’s classics filmed there.
He added that the collaboration would reignite Indo-UK filmmaking ties while celebrating 30 years of DDLJ.
The partnership is expected to bolster bilateral relations, deepen creative exchange, and strengthen cultural ties between India and the UK.
