A 27-year-old tech professional-turned-burglar has been arrested by the Vishakhapatnam police for his alleged involvement in a series of house break-ins across the city over the past three months.
Police said the accused, Achhi Mahesh Reddy alias Sunny, resorted to thefts to fund a lavish lifestyle that included overseas travel and a luxury BMW.
City police commissioner Shankabrata Bagchi said 699 grams of gold ornaments, 3.8 kg of silver, and a BMW car were seized from the accused.
Reddy is believed to have carried out burglaries under the limits of Gajuwaka, Arilova, Malkapuram, Pendurthi, and Duvvada police stations.
Investigations revealed that Reddy allegedly stole over 1 kg of gold, more than 6 kg of silver, and cash from several houses. A postgraduate and former IT employee, he has a long criminal history, having been first detained as a juvenile and later jailed in multiple burglary cases.
