BMW accident case: Defence seeks urgent preservation of CCTV footage

In the fatal BMW accident case that claimed the life of senior finance ministry official Navjot Singh, the defence has moved court seeking urgent preservation of CCTV footage from the accident site.

On Thursday, the Patiala House Court issued a notice to the SHO of Dhaula Kuan, directing preservation of all related visuals and summoning the officer with the case file at the next hearing.

The plea, filed by accused Gaganpreet Kaur’s counsel, argued that CCTV footage is crucial to prevent potential loss or tampering of key evidence.

The defence maintains that the visuals could reveal the exact timing and sequence of events, including the movement of vehicles, actions of first responders and bystanders, and whether the accused’s account aligns with the facts.

The footage also holds significance in determining whether Kaur drove the injured victim to a distant hospital, a factor central to the police’s decision to invoke Section 304 IPC for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
